Trainings were held for students to change gender stereotypes in the media

Ilia Chavchavadze Center hosted trainings for journalism students from eight Georgian universities. trainings aimed to reduce gender stereotypes, empower female journalists in media organizations and support media diversity.

The student participants represented journalism schools of various higher Educational Institutes (Tbilisi State University, International Black Sea University, Caucasus University, Grigol Robakidze University, University of Business and Technology, etc.) 

The training was led by Tbilisi State University Professor, Media Psychologist Mariam Gersamia, Associate Professor Maia Toradze and Psychologist and Psychotherapist Marina Goksadze.

The training covered the following topics:

• How to change and reduce gender stereotypes in the Media (news, talk-shows, commercials)?

• How to cover domestic violence?

• How to cover tragic news?

• Gender equality - history, legislation, challenges.

• Psychological aspects of covering sensitive stories.

At the end of the training, the participants received certificates from the Ilia Chavchavadze Center for European Studies and Civic Education. Trainings and discussions with media managers are carried out in the framework of “Empowerment of Female Journalists and Support of Media Diversity” project, with the generous support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia.
