On September 10 and 11, representatives of the Chavchavadze Center had a meeting with civil activists and representatives of academics in the region within the framework of the Project “Common Sense: Civil Society vis-à-vis Politics”. At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the Center Nino Kalandadze spoke about the project, followed by a discussion with Zaza Bibilashvili on the topic “Common Sense and Citizenship – Georgian Society Facing New Challenges”. Art critic David Bukhrikidze read a report on topic “The Role of Culture and Education and Georgia’s European Choice”. The second part of the event was dedicated to session of Professor Mariam Gersamia: “Media Psychology and the Art of Debate” and training by the Center’s fellow Lika Sanikidze on Project Financing and Donor Relations.
The civic engagement Project “Common Sense” is being implemented gradually in all regions of Georgia. The project is supported by the Konrad Adenauer South Caucasus Foundation. When speaking to Voice of Kakheti, the Director of the Center Nino Kalandadze, noted that “this is an innovative project aimed at enhancing civic activism and is mainly targeted towards young people living in the regions. Young people have high civic awareness and a sense of civic responsibility, but they have no place where they can voice their initiatives, or use their civic talents and abilities. This is the purpose of this project: discover active youth who need support and enable them to engage in a variety of civic projects”.
