The Chavchavadze Center Responds with a special Statement on Holding the Session of Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodox States in Tbilisi

We believe that this format in itself is part of the Russian soft power project aimed at spreading the so-called “Russian World”, which is used by the occupying state to promote its aggressive goals and interests. It is extremely alarming that the Government of Georgia which has repeatedly let various Russian lawmakers into the country in contravention of Georgian Law on Occupation, is, directly and indirectly, involved in implementation of this project.

In the absence of diplomatic relations and on the background of ongoing occupation of Georgian regions, such action of the Government of Georgia is not a matter of routine domestic political debate, but are unequivocally unacceptable.

We call on the authorities to immediately suspend cooperation with the occupying power, which is violating Georgia’s sovereignty and is harming Georgia’s national interests.

We call on diplomatic community and Georgia’s strategic partners to properly assess the actions of the Government of Georgia on another aggression of the occupier against the State of Georgia.
