Statement by Gia Japaridze

For years, I've had the honor of serving on the board of the Chavchavadze Center. Working alongside the Center's exceptional team as a board member and senior fellow, I've been involved in projects aimed at strengthening key elements of our country's democratic development: civic memory, intra-party democracy, critical thinking, and civic responsibility. I'm proud of the results the Chavchavadze Center has achieved, despite numerous challenges. The knowledge and courage of the youth who've participated in our projects are testament to our impact.

The Chavchavadze Center's mission is to foster a society that deeply understands the importance of active civic engagement. Now, with our country's political situation at a critical juncture and the threat of full-blown authoritarianism looming, I feel personally compelled to become more actively involved in politics and to put into practice the values that the Chavchavadze Center has always stood for – values that can help us build a better society together.

As the Chavchavadze Center is a non-partisan organization, my decision to enter active politics means I must step down from board membership. However, I'll always remain the Center's biggest supporter and a partner in my new role.

I would like to express my gratitude to every member of the Chavchavadze Center for their collaboration, friendship, and support of my decision. I also want to thank our partner organizations for their cooperation, which has been crucial in promoting the Center’s values and goals. I am confident that the Chavchavadze Center and I, though from different platforms, will continue to work to steer our country back towards democracy and advance its Western course.
