Training for Future Journalists

Training for future journalists was held at the Chavchavadze Center in the framework of "Empowerment of Female Journalists and Support of Media Diversity" Project. The participants are journalism students from various Georgian universities.

The training was opened by Zaza Bibilashvili, the founder of the Chavchavadze Center, who spoke about the role of the civil society and the media in particular in the process of changing stereotypes.

After the theoretical and practical sessions led by Mariam Gersamia and Maia Toradze, professors of Tbilisi State University, future journalists discussed how to change gender-related stereotypes in the media (news programs, talk shows and commercials).

The second day of the training was dedicated to sessions and discussions on the following topics:

· How to cover domestic violence?
· How to cover tragic news?
· Psychological aspects of covering sensitive stories.

Theoretical and practical sessions were led by Mariam Gersamia and Maia Toradze, professors of Tbilisi State University.

To the future journalists Psychologist and psychotherapist Marina Goksadze introduced the reframing technique and various models of success, after that the students participated in a therapeutic session focused on strengthening resources.

At the end of the two-day training, Zaza Bibilashvili, the founder of the Chavchavadze Center, and Nino Kalandadze, the director of the center, handed over certificates to the participants.

Trainings are carried out in the framework of “Empowerment of Female Journalists and Support of Media Diversity” project, with the generous support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia.
