Digital Shield: Empowering Georgian Public Against Online Disinformation

Digital Shield is a project implemented by the Ilia Chavchavadze Center for European Studies and Civic Education, funded by the New Democracy Fund (NDF). The project addresses the urgent need to combat disinformation in Georgia's increasingly challenging information environment, particularly in the context of rapid democratic backsliding. Over a three-month period, the project will develop user-friendly materials for identifying disinformation, create educational content for online platforms, and establish digital infrastructure for remote content analysis and fact-checking. By targeting active social media users and civic leaders while reaching out to vulnerable populations, the project aims to contribute to a greater resilience of civil society capable of recognizing and countering propaganda. The initiative seeks to adapt anti-disinformation efforts to an increasingly digital landscape, ensuring continued effectiveness in promoting democratic integrity despite rising authoritarianism and potential operational challenges.
